Central Community College-Grand Island business administration instructor Venus King (center) was recently presented with the Dale P. Parnell Faculty Recognition Award. CCC-Grand Island President Dr. Marcie Kemnitz (left) and CCC President Dr. Matt Gotschall (right) were also in attendance for the presentation.

The award is presented by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and is given to community college educators who demonstrate passion for the student and the classroom and go above and beyond what is required to ensure that students are successful in their academic endeavors. King received the award on April 12 at the AACC national convention in Seattle.

“(Receiving the award) was so exciting for me because I feel like I just show up and do what I’m called to do, being with students each day, first and foremost, and meeting them where they’re at,” said King. “Central Community College is big enough to have impact, but small enough where I can get to know each student. I think people feel that. Receiving an award for something that I feel I do naturally was pretty cool.”

King has taught at the Grand Island Campus since 2017 after working several years in the corporate world. She earned degrees from Wayne State College and Doane University.
