April 10, 2024
More than 80 Central Community College students will compete in the annual SkillsUSA Nebraska state contests which will be held April 11-13.
A record 73 CCC-Hastings students will be taking part in competitions at Fonner Park and other locations, including CCC’s Grand Island and Hastings campuses. Nine CCC autobody technology students are set to take part in the automotive refinishing contest while eight students each will compete in crime scene investigation, diesel equipment technology and welding.
As in past years, CCC-Grand Island will host the high school welding competition, and new for this year, the emergency medical technician and first aid/CPR contests. CCC-Hastings will host the heavy equipment operator competition.
“We are pleased with the Central Community College student participation from all three campuses, and we are anticipating an increase of medal recipients,” said Dr. Nate Allen, dean of career and technical sciences. “SkillsUSA provides the opportunity for students to further develop their skills and knowledge in their chosen fields and we are pleased that a larger number of CCC students are taking part.”
Additionally, multiple CCC faculty and staff members will serve as contest coordinators and volunteers during the three-day event and a CCC booth will be in the expo building on Thursday evening and all day on Friday.
