Alphabet Soup of Giving

RMD – CGA – DAF: It may seem like alphabet soup, but really, it’s giving options to best meet your needs (and ours) by maximizing your gift.

Don’t be discouraged by the alphabet soup of the giving world! These acronyms are useful tools to help you make the best giving decision for your situation, while helping to support your favorite organizations. We hope Central Community College Foundation (CCCF) is in your favorites list.

There are so many ways to support students and programming at Central. Let’s sample a few of the immediate gift and planned giving options:

  • »  Cash – One of the easiest ways to give. This is an immediate gift that can be given in person, through the mail, or online (www.cccneb.edu/donate).

  • »  Shop and Give – When you shop at Amazon and designate Central Community College Foundation Inc. as your selected charity, the Amazon Smile Foundation donates 0.5% of the purchase price on eligible items to CCCF. So, shop (go to smile.amazon.com) and give to CCCF.

  • »  Matching Gift Programs – Established by companies as an employee benefit. After an employee donates to a qualified charity, the employee then makes a request to their employer to make an additional donation to the charity. This amount depends upon the company’s policy. Does your employer have a matching gift program that could maximize your gift to CCCF?

  • »  IRA Charitable Rollover – If you are 701⁄2 years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to help those we serve and receive tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your Individualized Retirement Account (IRA) directly to a qualified charity such as CCCF without paying income taxes on the money.

  • »  RMD: Required Minimum Distribution – A minimum amount that you are required to withdraw annually from your retirement accounts (e.g. IRAs) once you reach 72 (or 70 1⁄2 prior to 1/1/2020). RMD’s directed to CCCF or other qualified charities becomes a qualified charitable distribution, which has tax benefits.

  • »  DAF: Donor Advised Fund – Similar to a charitable savings account established with a DAF provider, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted
to CCCF and other qualified charities. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts. Additionally, by designating your DAF as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your retirement plan assets, your fund receives the full amount of the gift and bypasses federal taxes.

  • »  CGA: Charitable Gift Annuity – A planned gift that takes some coordination but can successfully achieve giving goals by making a major gift, offer tax benefits, and other income and estate benefits dependent upon the contract.

  • »  CRT: Charitable Remainder Trust – A planned giving vehicle that provides benefit to you and CCCF by providing you or other named individuals income each year for life or a period not exceeding 20 years from assets you give to the trust you create.

So, what is your giving ‘soup’ of choice? Giving is a personal choice that takes in to account many variables such as timing, taxes, and giving goals. We truly appreciate the many ways our partners give to CCCF in support of CCC students and programming. Please contact CCCF to discuss your gift to CCC and our mission so that we can honor your goals. You can reach Traci Skalberg, Executive Director, Jessica Rohan, Development Director, or Dean Moors, Planned Giving Director, at 402-460-2151 or by emailing [email protected]. Additionally, remember to bring your financial/legal professionals into the discussion with questions on giving as well.
