Academic Success Center - Hastings

Student being tutored at the Hastings Academic Success Center. The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides many services for students. These include on-campus tutoring, online tutoring, computer lab and computer assistance, and the academic skill builder workshop.

Tutoring

Tutoring is a free service to our students. Our tutors have knowledge in specific subjects and will act as a learning resource for you. They will help you review and study what you've learned in class. One-on-one and group tutoring is available in selected subjects.

We are also seeking students who want to become tutors. If you have an above average grade in a specific course and want to help others learn, then you may qualify. Our tutors are paid and set their own hours with individual students or study groups.

Virtual Tutoring

Students can access subject specific tutors at scheduled times simply through virtual tutoring. This will allow face-to-face tutoring in real time.

Writing Center

What is the Writing Center?

The Writing Center offers free, one-on-one assistance to Central Community College students as they strive to improve their writing skills. We provide CCC student writers with a welcoming, inviting, collaborative and supportive atmosphere in which they can develop their skills and make informed decisions about their writing. We promote writing excellence and success of students in both their academic and future careers. The Writing Center also offers free, one-on-one collaboration to Central Community College faculty and staff as they create assignments for their courses, write for  publications, update their resumes and CVs, etc.

How do I use the Writing Center?

Students are encouraged to schedule appointments ahead of time. We accept drop-ins, but a  writing coach might not be immediately available. Please contact the Academic Success Center  coordinator for more information or for assistance in scheduling an appointment. For further  information, contact Jim Eads.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental instruction is offered in courses that are historically difficult for students. In this effort, a former student who excelled in the area attends the class and then offers additional teaching sessions to students. These sessions are held at times that accommodate student schedules like weekends, evenings, etc. For more information contact the Academic Success Center.

Testing for students with accommodations

Students who have an accommodation letter through Disability Services can utilize the Academic Success Center for testing accommodations. They need to inform their instructor and make an appointment with the ASC staff before testing.
