Academic Success Center - Columbus
The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides many services for students. These include on-campus, and online tutoring, Writing Coaches for all subjects, computer lab use, printing, computer assistance, Academic Skill Builder workshops, and non-credit Academic English classes for English Language Learners.
Tutoring is a free service to our students. Our tutors have knowledge in specific subjects and will act as a learning resource for students. They will help students review and study what they have learned in class. One-on-one and group tutoring is available in selected subjects.
We are also seeking students who want to become tutors. If you have an above average grade in a specific course and want to help others learn, then you may qualify. Our tutors are paid and work with Academic Success Center staff to set tutoring hours that work with both the tutor’s schedule and the needs of the Center. Tutors may have the opportunity to work with individual students and/or lead study groups.
Students can access subject-specific tutors at scheduled times through virtual tutoring. This will allow face-to-face tutoring in real time.

What is the Writing Center?
The Writing Center offers free access to Writing Coaches who offer one-on-one assistance in all subject areas to Central Community College students as they strive to improve their writing skills. We provide CCC student writers with a welcoming, inviting, collaborative and supportive atmosphere in which they can develop their skills and make informed decisions about their writing. We promote writing excellence and success of students in both their academic and future careers.
How do I use the Writing Center?
Students are encouraged to schedule appointments ahead of time. We accept drop-ins, but a Writing Coach might not be immediately available. Writing Coaches are also available online. Please contact the Academic Success Center at 402-562-1297 for more information or for assistance in scheduling an appointment.
Supplemental instruction is offered in courses that are historically difficult for students. In this effort, a former student who has excelled in one of these subject areas offers additional teaching sessions to students. The leader of these sessions presents course material utilizing a variety of methods and perspectives to assist students in mastering the material. Contact the Academic Success Center at 402-562-1297 for more information on Supplemental Instruction availability.
The Academic Success Center offers non-credit instruction in pre-collegiate transitional Academic English to prepare English Language Learners for the expectations of college-level courses. These classes give students a positive start to achieving their academic goals. Three levels of non-credit Academic English classes are offered during the fall and spring semesters.
It is recommended that an ELL assessment be taken in CCC’s assessment center prior to registering for Academic English classes. Assessment scores will be used to determine the most appropriate level of Academic English. For more information, contact the Academic Success Center at 402-562-1297.
Students who have an accommodation letter through Disability Services can utilize the Academic Success Center for testing accommodations. They need to inform their instructor and make an appointment with the ASC staff before testing.
