Faculty FAQ's

What is the Raider Ready program?

Raider Ready is a course material delivery program that ensures that ALL students across ALL courses have access to their learning materials on or before the first day of class, which allows them to use course content from day one and supports their academic success.

Through this program, physical books will be conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and digital materials will be delivered directly within Canvas. Costs will be included in the students’ account. At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return their physical course materials to the bookstore.

With Raider Ready, all required course materials are provided for a fee of $22 per credit hour applied to the student account.

NOTE: By default, each new semester ALL registered students are opted-IN to the program. Students must confirm physical materials by choosing their preference between on campus pickup and delivery.

How does Raider Ready benefit our students?

Raider Ready makes getting textbooks easier for students, which will ultimately improve their success. Not only will students receive their textbooks by the first day of class, but at other institutions students save an average of 35%-50% on textbooks.

What is included in the program?

The program provides the faculty selected version of all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and digital materials to eligible students.

If you have questions about whether your material is covered by this program, please contact your campus bookstore manager.

Grand Island Campus & Centers - Meriah Bockman - [email protected]

Columbus Campus - Wendy Gaunt - [email protected]

Hastings Campus - Alexis Hoselton - [email protected]

What is excluded from the program?

The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kids, engineering kits or nursing kits. Also, optional/recommended material will not be included.

How do students purchase if they decide not to be in the program?

Eligible students who have elected to opt-out of the program will be responsible for purchasing their course materials through the bookstore or any other open market source.

How does BNC ensure that students are getting their required course materials?

Approximately one month before classes start, students will receive an email instructing them to select their fulfillment preference for physical material (in-store pickup or shipped directly). A second email notification will be sent when the student’s order is ready for pickup or when it ships. Any digital materials delivered within Canvas will be available when the student has access to their course.

Will faculty have to change their course materials currently being used?

No, there are no restrictions on the course materials you select for your course. All course materials, from any publisher, in your preferred format are included in the program.

Why not work directly with publishers?

Publishers do not have the ability to provide all the different formats of content that faculty request at the lowest price possible.

How can we be sure that this will lower textbook costs for our students?

BNC is committed to lowering the costs of course material to our students, and with their integrated supply chain and economies of scale, the Raider Ready program brings a new innovative way to provide the most affordable solution for our students.

The student will be charged $22 per credit per semester. This includes any courses that have books, access codes, OER’s, and no course material.

Example $22 per credit X 15 credits = $330

Will students be able to keep their course materials once they have completed the course?

Students will have the option to purchase textbooks at a reduced rate. The actual pricing for the book will vary based on current pricing and market demand for the book. Generally, materials will be priced at the used retail (which is 75% of the new price) or lower.

What happens if a faculty member changes their course material adoption?

If a faculty member changes their course material adoption, faculty should notify the bookstore of the new adoption, and the bookstore will ensure that students receive the corrected course materials.

What if my teaching assignment changes (e.g., I was scheduled to teach one course, but later assigned to another)?

The bookstore is committed to helping as they normally do in those situations. They will work to update the textbook adoption platform with the new materials.

What happens if a student drops/adds a course?

When a student changes their course schedule, instructions are provided for returning course materials, and the student will be prompted via email to select a delivery preference for any new courses that have been added.

What if a student adds/drops a class late?

Once the bookstore receives notification of the schedule change (usually will occur within 24 hours), their required course materials list will update, and they will be asked to confirm their preference between on campus pickup or delivery for any new materials and reminded to return, within 48 hours, any materials they may have received for a dropped course.

This does not apply to any classes students withdrawal from, only those that would be exceptional drops.

What if students have questions or trouble accessing their digital course materials?

All students using digital materials in the Raider Ready program should be directed to contact Bookstore Customer Care at [email protected] for assistance.

If I adopt Open Education Resources (OER) or don’t require a textbook, do my students still have to pay the fee?

Students will pay for the total number of credits taken a semester, not by the number of courses utilizing the program. Students have the option to opt-out for all classes in their term.

BNC provides supplemental courseware from some OER’s within the $22 per credit hour if you opt to use OER. However, if the student opts-out out of the program, and you utilize the courseware, there is a $25 per student charge that the student will be responsible to pay.

I use open access of free materials. How will this be affected?

Instructors can continue to use open access materials for their courses.

Raider Ready works within Canvas for the provision of electronic materials. Faculty can continue to add free materials to their Canvas sites and use educational materials on other sites. However, accessing online course materials outside Canvas is not included in the program.

How do we ensure course materials in the Raider Ready program are accessible to students with accommodations?

The bookstore can accommodate students with accessibility needs.
