Identity theft is the nation’s number-one consumer complaint. It happens when someone uses your personal information without your consent to open new accounts, make purchases or secure other benefits. In brief, they pretend to be you. Ryan Sothan from the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office will arm all in attendance with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully detect, deter and defend against identity theft. This includes routinely monitoring your credit, timely reporting whenever personal information is lost or stolen, and safeguarding against future financial losses by placing a fraud alert and/or security freeze on your credit file.
