Cigars 101: History of the Leaf

Did you know that a century ago, Hastings produced over five million cigars a year? Or that on average 124 different people handle the tobacco 3,400 to craft a fine handmade cigar? The history of cigars goes back to the ancient Mayans and remains a popular and growing luxury experience today. John Silvester, Nebraska’s only certified retail tobacconist, and Paul Hamelink, owner of Paul’s Cigar Lounge, will introduce you to the history of tobacco and cigars. One cigar will be included as a teaching aid for class members to learn how to cut, light and smoke a cigar. Participants must be 21 or older.
