This hands-on beekeeping class will introduce you to the skills needed to obtain optimum benefits for your hive. This 10-month class will meet the third Tuesday of the month, Feb. 18 through Nov. 18. Students are required to wear a hood and are responsible for the purchase of their equipment.
You will learn about the types of bees, bee behaviors, current and best practices based on colony habits, hive designs, queen rearing, splits, treatment of pests, the importance of flowers in your area, extraction methods and marketing the products of your hive. You will also learn documentation practices that will help you make best choices in the implementation and growth of your apiary. This course will be a mix of lecture and hands-on activities focused around your beehive.
