The class will meet from Tuesdays, Aug. 17 through Dec. 9, and Saturdays, Sept. 18, Oct. 16 and Nov. 20. Orientation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 10.
The class will be taught by certified Nebraska Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) instructors in the hybrid “flipped” classroom style. Students are expected to complete the online coursework prior to each class meeting. The classroom portion will meet for hands-on skills. Upon completion of the class, students must take and pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) written and practical exam and complete a State of Nebraska application to be licensed in Nebraska.
The EMT bridge and pre-hospital care for nurses will be taught in conjunction with the EMT class.
EMT (HLTH 1750, 5 credits): Prepares the student for Nebraska licensure as a basic life support EMT. This course meets State of Nebraska guidelines for EMT and prepares the student to take the NREMT exam.
EMT Bridge (HLTH 1870, 3 credits): Covers the material necessary for a student to progress from the level of Emergency Medical Responder to EMT. The course meets State of Nebraska guidelines for EMT and prepares the student to take the NREMT exam. CPR certification and current Emergency Medical Responder license required to take this course.
Pre-Hospital Emergency Care for Nurses (HLTH 1820, 3 credits): Prepares nurses to work in the field as an EMT. Recognizes the formal training the RN or LPN has already received, thus avoiding unnecessary repetition. This course meets State of Nebraska guidelines for EMT and prepares the student to take the NREMT exam. CPR certification and current RN or LPN license required to take this course.
The fee for each class includes in-state tuition, fees, digital text and assessment package. Payment is due at the time of registration. Early registration is encouraged because classes fill quickly; registrations will be honored in the order they are received.
Individuals must have a current BLS Health Care Provider CPR card or its equivalent before they can take the class. CCC-Grand Island will offer CPR classes from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the following dates: June 21, Aug. 5 and Aug. 11. The cost is $65.
