The class will meet varying Mondays or Tuesdays, Jan. 23 through May 7, 2024, as well as Saturdays, Feb. 10, March 9 and April 13. The required orientation meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 17.
The class will be taught in the hybrid ”flipped classroom” style by certified Nebraska Emergency Medical Technician Instructors. Students are expected to complete the online coursework prior to each class meeting. The classroom portion will meet for hands-on skills. The EMT Bridge and Pre-Hospital Emergency Care for Nurses courses are taught in conjunction with the EMT class.
The class includes objectives designed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and demonstrating hands-on abilities. Upon completion of the class, students must take and pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) written and practical exam and complete a State of Nebraska application to be licensed in Nebraska.
A current BLS Healthcare Provider CPR card or its equivalent is required before the start of class. CPR classes have been scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. on Dec. 7, Jan. 9 and Jan. 25. The cost is $69.
Class descriptions:
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) HLTH 1750 5 credits. Prepares the student for Nebraska licensure as a basic life support Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). This course meets State of Nebraska guidelines for EMT and prepares the student to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam. CPR certification required to take this course.
Emergency Medical Technician Bridge HLTH 1870 3 credits. Covers the material necessary for a student to progress from the level of Emergency Medical Responder to Emergency Medical Technician. The course meets State of Nebraska guidelines for EMT and prepares the student to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam. CPR certification and current Emergency Medical Responder license required to take this course.
Pre-Hospital Emergency Care For Nurses HLTH 1820 3 credits. Prepares nurses to work in the field as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Recognizes the formal training the RN or LPN has already received, thus avoiding unnecessary repetition. This course meets State of Nebraska guidelines for EMT and prepares the student to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam. CPR certification and current RN or LPN license required to take this course.
The cost of each class includes digital text and assessment package. There is an additional cost for the cognitive exam paid to the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
