This Emergency Medical Technician class will meet varying Mondays or Tuesdays, Jan. 21 through May 6, and Saturdays, Feb. 8, March 22 and April 12.
Orientation will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. on Jan. 14.
Also being offered during this time are Pre-Hospital Emergency Care for Nurses and EMT Bridge classes.
All three classes are taught by certified Nebraska Emergency Medical Technician instructors and meet State of Nebraska guidelines for EMTs. They prepare students to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam. The course descriptions are as follows:
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), HLTH 1750: This five-credit class prepares students for Nebraska licensure as a basic life support EMT. CPR certification is required to take this course.
- Pre-Hospital Emergency Care for Nurses, HLTH 1820: This three-credit class prepares nurses to work in the field as EMTs. It recognizes the formal training RNs and LPNs have already received, thus avoiding unnecessary repetition. CPR certification and a current RN or LPN license are required to take this course.
- EMT Bridge, HLTH 1870: This three-credit class covers the material necessary for a student to progress from the level of Emergency Medical Responder to EMT. CPR certification and a current Emergency Medical Responder license are required to take this course.
BLS Health Care Provider CPR classes are available at CCC-Grand Island on Dec. 12 and Jan. 9. The class meets from 6 to 10 p.m. and costs $70.
