American Heart Association BLS instructors teach lifesaving CPR, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid courses to the general public and medical community. They aren't required to have a medical background to teach these courses.
Students should bring with them to class:
- Current CPR Card: American Heart Association BLS Provider card. Students who have any other type of card should call the college before enrolling in the course.
- Completed Instructor Application.
- Certificate of Completion for the American Heart Association Instructor Essentials course. (Students will receive more information after they register.)
They also should wear comfortable clothing to class because they will be actively performing skills throughout the training. Dressing in layers also is recommended for personal comfort in the classroom.
