This 1971 drama is set in rural Virginia in 1933. It's Christmas eve and the Waltons are preparing to celebrate the holiday without patriarch John Walton, who has gone off to the big city in search of work. He still hasn't returned home and a heavy snowstorm only adds more cause for worry for his family. Teenage son John-Boy tries to distract his siblings by explaining the real meaning of Christmas to them, but his mother finally sends him out to find his father.

The “Beyond the Screen” series is offered free of charge and is open to people who enjoy watching and discussing movies. The movie will be followed by a discussion with CCC English instructor Jim Kosmicki serving as moderator.
