Objectives
Writing prescriptions as dental hygienists
The student will be able to:
- Write prescriptions under indirect supervision by a licensed dentist for mouth rinses.
- Write prescriptions under indirect supervision by a licensed dentist for fluoride products
Nitrous Oxide Administration
The student will be able to:
- Understand the safe and effective method for administration of nitrous oxide in a dental setting.
- Perform the titration method for nitrous oxide administration.
- Understand the signs and symptoms of nitrous oxide analgesia/sedation
- List the reactions and complications of nitrous oxide.
Denture Adjustments
The student will be able to explain the process of denture adjustments.
Interim Therapeutic Restoration
The student will be able to provide the following information for interim therapeutic restorations:
- Pulpal anatomy
- Principles of adhesive restorative materials
- Preparation of the tooth and placement techniques
- Diagnostic criteria for atraumatic therapeutic restorations
- Evaluation of proper placement and technique
- Protocols for handling complications, sensitivity, or unsuccessful completion and follow-up.
- Placement of ITR on typodonts.
