“Cultivation Regulated Children: How to help Tramatized and Stressed Children in the Childcare Setting” Presentor: Jody Trego

This session is designed to help childcare professionals apply trauma informed strategies in the childcare setting. The key elements necessary to develop a trusting, safe relationship will be explored, and the ways in which a relationship with a trauma exposed child is different from other children will be discussed. Relationship strategies designed to support self-regulation will be shared. The use of routine and behavior modification will be explored.

  • Overview of the impact of stress/trauma on the developing child
  • Behavioral and relational functioning, what to expect
  • Relational shifts that support child regulation
  • Importance of predictable routine
  • Breaks and behavior modification: Do they help or hurt progression.

This session will introduce or re-introduce you to the Pyramid model for providing behavioral supports to all children. This model addresses environment, relationships, teaching appropriate skills and targeted strategies.

This session will:

  • Introduce you to the Pyramid model and its implementation.
  • Target the two bottom levels of the pyramid which support quality care.
  • Provide participants the opportunity to plan strategies to meet pyramid recommendations.

All trainings have been pre-approved for DHHS child care licensure training, four in-service hours.
