Central Community College
cares about our water, energy, land use, built and natural environment, and community health. As a signatory of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, we have made a commitment to a sustainable environment. For our communities and ultimately the world at large, we believe environmental sustainability is important, and is connected to social and economic sustainability. At CCC we define environmental sustainability as meeting "the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (from the 1987 Brundtland report). Our environmental commitment supports our commitment to our students and their future. We are at the beginning of our journey towards building the programs, knowledge, culture and practices for a sustainable future. We call our steps on this journey our "3C Initiatives," representing our collective efforts across CCC. We hope you join us in this important journey. Green Today...Greener Tomorrow.

Solar Panels at CCC - Hastings

These photovoltaic solar panels are a sign of the Merrick Building’s new role as an Alternative Energy Training Center at Central Community College. Each panel has a built-in inverter and control system so it can be monitored individually. Half of the panels are mounted on a base that lets them track the sun. The other panels are fixed but can be adjusted for seasonal changes in the sun’s position. The panels will supply 17 kilowatts of power and help reduce the carbon footprint of the campus. The panels were placed in front of the Merrick Building for easy ground-floor access, and will be a learning tool and resource for CCC's students and staff. Installation of the panels finished in August, 2012.
