
Media Arts Occupations
The media arts program is dedicated to providing the educational opportunities, the creative environment and the professional experience necessary for students planning careers in broadcasting, photography, graphic art, printing and desktop publishing. Students are exposed to media art careers and technology through practical experiences in classes, publishing a web site, tours and internships.
Placement Opportunities
Careers in graphic art, publishing and printing include composition, layout and
design, digital image editing, photography, bindery and press operations.
In commercial radio and television, the variety of careers includes announcing,
advertising, production, and news reporting. Career opportunities are also
expanding in fields related to publishing on the World Wide Web and multimedia.
A variety of newspapers, radio and television stations, advertising agencies,
commercial printing plants, and corporate print shops in the area offer
potential employment. Media arts students are given the opportunity to
work with area professionals through cooperative education programs and
internships. The college provides a placement service.

Associate of Applied Science Degree
Media Arts (H)
Purpose-Graduates with an emphasis in broadcasting will receive training in
communication, technical, and creative skills for positions in radio or
television broadcasting or video production. Radio students will gain
on-the-air experience through staff assignments on KCNT-FM.. Video
students will gain practical experience through production assignments for
Central Community College.
Graduates with an emphasis in graphic art will receive training in layout and design, pre-press, electronic illustration, and digital image editing for careers in the graphic art, publishing and graphic design fields. Students will gain practical experience through production assignments for a campus-based site on the World Wide Web. Graduates with an emphasis in photography will receive training in picture composition, darkroom techniques and digital photo retouching for careers in photojournalism, offset photography and advertising. Graduates with an emphasis in printing will receive training for operational positions in the printing and publishing fields.

Each Media Arts certificate allows students to work closely with their
adviser to plan a specific 12-credit course of study unique to their
individual needs. Students can upgrade their skills for professional
advancement, find employment in a specific career or use the certificate
