CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Steps for Articulation Process

 Prior To Articulation Meeting

" Develop a college drawing board for the articulation area. (Check with the Tech Prep office to see if one currently exists and simply needs to be updated.) This drawing board needs to be designed as if you have the ideal student entering into your program of study--what course of study would you suggest for that student.

" Prepare to distribute course descriptions, class syllabus, and class objectives to those schools participating in articulation.

" Assemble text books and curriculum tools for high schools to view at the articulation meeting.

During Articulation Meeting

" Arrive 15 minutes early. Dress to make that GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION. (This may be the first time the high school instructors meet you.)

" Describe your program to the high school instructor(s).

" Determine the replication of objectives between the high school courses and CCC courses being articulated.

" Determine the high school and CCC classes to be articulated.

" Sign the articulation agreement.

After Articulation Meeting

" Visit high schools to meet students personally and talk about technical careers and about articulation and career preparation opportunities at CCC.

" Plan joint activities aimed at raising student interest in higher education (e.g., team-taught demonstrations, joint field trips to employer sites).

" Develop joint brochures, videos, newsletters, posters, or other media to promote vocational-technical linkages to current and prospective high school students and their parents.

" Jointly host skill competitions for current and prospective students.

" CCC, Secondary schools, and employers jointly host vocational-technical career fairs or other activities targeted at improving students' and the public's knowledge and perceptions of vocational-technical careers

" CCC faculty or technology students (as a community service activity)-take advantage of opportunities to meet and mentor promising vocational students or adopt a vocational class, making an extra effort to spend time with the high school students and encourage and help them to enroll and succeed at CCC.

" Collect data on articulation usage and subsequent student success stories and feed this information to parents, current and prospective students, and the local media.

. . . . and so forth. Opportunities are limited only by the amount of time and creativity you can give!!
