Raider Head Coach Mary Young

Coach Mary Young heads into her nineteeth season at the helm of the Central Community College-Columbus volleyball program. The 2013 team appears to be as strong, impressive and competitive as any of her previous teams and expects to once again challenge for conference and regional championships.

 

Young has established herself as a coach whose teams are perennial conference and regional contenders. She has compiled a 533-287 record, with eleven Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference championships in the past seventeen years. Young has carried on the tradition of Raider volleyball with Nebraska student athletes who are athletic, hardworking and committed to winning. Her teams are always at the top of Region IX in individual and team statistics. In her tenure at CCC-Columbus, Young has coached 67 All-Conference players, 56 All-Region players and 15 All-American players. In addition, 37 of the athletes she has coaches have earned NJCAA Academic Awards since 1997. She has been named NCCAC Coach of the Year nine times and Region IX Coach of the Year eight times, and was selected as the American Volleyball Coaches Association West Region Coach of the Year in 2002, 2008, and 2011.

Young is a native of Arcadia, Neb. She earned her associate of arts degree from the Columbus Campus, a bachelor of science degree in recreation from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D., and a master of science degree in counseling-student affairs from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Mary's husband, Joel, works for Nebraska Public Power District. They have two children, Kaden, age 10 and Gabbi, 8.

In addition to her coaching duties at Central Community College, Young is a full-time faculty member in the Physical Education area. She is also serves Region IX of the NJCAA as the Assistant Region Director for Women's Sports and is the President of the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association.
