His first coaching job included several duties as the head 7th, 8th, and sophomore coach at Grand Island Central Catholic high school while also serving as a varsity assistant for coaching mentor Bill Gavers.

After one season of high school basketball Coach Levinson headed west to gain some division I experience at The University of the Pacific where he served as the video coordinator for the Tigers during the 2006-07 season. Levinson then moved to San Jose, California where he served as an assistant coach for two storied junior college programs in California. Levinson coached the 2007-08 season at West Valley College and the 2008-09 season at San Jose City College where he helped assist with a Coast South Conference championship season.

Levinson returned home to Nebraska as the graduate assistant for his alma mater the University of Nebraska Kearney for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. At UNK Coach Levinson developed his coaching philosophy under legendary Coach Tom Kropp and earned a master's degree as a Master Teacher of Physical Education.
