Workshop to Focus on Understanding Health Disparities

Central Community College will offer a workshop, “Understanding Health Disparities and Developing Strategies for Improved Health Care Outcomes,” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 22 at College Park in Grand Island.


The workshop is sponsored by CCC’s Project HELP and is being offered free of charge to nurses, health care occupation students, EMTs and other health care professionals.


The keynote speaker will be Dr. Renaisa Anthony, deputy director of the Center for Reducing Health Disparities at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, assistant professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Social and Behavioral Health in the UNMC College of Public Health, and a licensed physician at the Charles Drew Community Health Center.


She will discuss health disparities from a health care provider’s perspective, the impact of social determinants and poverty on a patient’s health status, and strategies for reducing health disparities for improved patient care and outcomes.
