Medical Assisting

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

 

Prepare to enter one of the nation’s fastest growing professions through the CCC-Hastings Medical Assisting program! The U.S. Labor Department projects a 35.4 percent growth in employment – 148,000 new jobs -- for medical assistants during the decade ending in 2016.

 

Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical procedures as members of the health care team. The CCC medical assisting program covers all aspects of the profession including:

  • Administrative and business skills
  • Scheduling and receiving patients
  • Maintaining medical records
  • Correspondence
  • Insurance materials
  • Computer use
  • Clinical and medical skills
  • Assisting with examinations
  • Treatments and minor surgery
  • Office testing and laboratory procedures
  • Preparing and maintaining examination and treatment rooms
  • Sterilizing and caring for instruments and equipment

Graduates can develop advance professional skills and earn an associate of applied science degree by completing additional courses.

 

Certification - Graduates of the CCC-Hastings Medical Assisting program are eligible to take the National Certification Examination for Medical Assistants and the Phlebotomy Certification Examination of the National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel. (Licensing is voluntary for practice as a medical assistant.)
