A need for 223,000 elementary and 180,000 secondary teachers is projected over a 10-year period, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, which ranks teaching as one of the occupations with the largest number of job openings over a 10-year period.
A bachelor’s degree is required to be eligible for licensing as an elementary or secondary school teacher. You can complete the first two years of teacher education program through the Central Community College academic transfer program. In addition to classes in the subject areas you intend to teach, CCC provides courses for students who plan to major in education.

Hastings College admits a limited number of Central Community College students under its Teacher Education Bound Program. Students have the opportunity to take specified Hastings College Education classes at CCC tuition rates while completing an associate of arts degree at CCC, and then transferring to Hastings College to complete their bachelor's degree. Students transferring under this program qualify for a 45 percent discount in tuition during their junior and senior years at Hastings College
