The Basic Rider Course includes at least five hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of riding instruction. Students will be coached to develop physical skills of basic control that include straight line riding, stopping, turning and shifting. Professionally trained RiderCoaches teach in the classroom and then coach riders in a controlled riding area.
The Basic Rider Course provides motorcycles and helmets. (If a student chooses to wear his/her own helmet, it must be a DOT certified helmet.) Students must bring a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit. Students need to wear garments with long sleeves; long pants; shoes or boots that cover the ankles and have low heels; gloves; and eye protection. Always bring rain gear.
The fee is $190 for Nebraska residents with a Nebraska Driver’s License. Fees for students with out-of-state licenses will be $265. A parent or legal guardian must sign the required waiver form for riders who are between the ages of 15 and 18. In order receive a certificate, student must attend all classroom and riding sessions and pass the knowledge and skills tests.
All students are expected to be physically and mentally capable of controlling a motorcycle. In the event that the RiderCoaches deem a student a safety risk to self or other students, he or she will be asked to step out of the class and there will be no refund of fees.
Upon presentation of course certificate, participants are eligible to waive the written and riding test when obtaining a motorcycle endorsement on their Nebraska driver’s license.
